Sigiriya Rock
Sigiriya is one of the most valuable historical monuments of Sri Lanka. It looks like a massive rock was just
dropped from the heavens since it’s surrounded by mainly flat land. The Sigiriya rock has a height of around 660 ft.,
and it gives a fantastic view to the tourists in all of Sri Lanka and this is one of the country’s number one tourist
destination. A trip to Sri Lanka would be incomplete without a visit to this amazing place. This was recognized as a
World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. Since the 3rd century BC Sigiriya served as a monastery and in the second half
of the 5th century, King Kasyapa decided to construct a royal palace here. By the way after the King’s death Sigiriya
again became a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century when the rock was then abandoned. The opening Hours is from
6.30 am to 5.30 pm every day. It is better to visit early in the morning before 9am or by the late in the afternoon
because it may hot to climb during noon.
